How it all Started

The Story of JD Customs USA

JD Customs USA was originally started by Jon in 2015, but it wasn't anything like the company you know today.

The Start

2015

A small shop with a clear standard.

JD Customs USA was originally started by Jon in 2015, but it looked nothing like the JDC you know today. What began as a small side project was built around customization, attention to detail, and creating something different from what everyone else was offering.

On September 7, 2015, Jon purchased his 2006 Mitsubishi Evolution IX MR. That car sparked his interest in custom automotive parts, especially parts that were hard to find, too expensive, or could simply be made better.

Custom Work

2016

From Custom Cups to Car Parts

Before JDC became focused on performance parts, Jon started by powder coating custom Yeti cups. In 2016 alone, he made more than 630 custom cups for customers, and that early work helped fund the transition into automotive parts. Some of those original cups can still be found by scrolling back to the beginning of our Instagram page, @JD_Customs_USA.

2017

The First Ignition Systems

After building his first ignition system for his own Evo, Jon realized there was a real market for more affordable ignition systems. He began selling them online and locally to other Evo owners, helping move JDC from custom powder coated items into automotive performance parts.

Titanium Begins

2018

The First Titanium Hardware

In 2018, Jon began offering titanium hardware for JDC ignition systems. What started as a small addition quickly turned into growing demand for more titanium parts, hardware, and custom options. At the time, Jon was still the only employee and continued running JD Customs USA as a side job while working a full-time 9-to-5.

2019

Turning the Side Job Into a Career

As the business continued to grow, Jon spent long nights filling orders after work. He would get home around 5:00 and immediately start working on customer orders late into the night. That grind continued until April 1, 2019, when he was finally able to leave his full-time job and focus completely on JD Customs USA.

Growth During an Uncertain Time

When COVID-19 hit in early 2020, Jon expected business to slow down and started to worry about the future of JDC. Instead, with more people at home working on their cars, sales increased faster than he could keep up with alone. In April 2020, Jon hired the first official JDC employee, Paul Allan.

The Team Grows

2023

From One Person to a Full Team

By 2023, JD Customs USA had grown to seven full-time employees, each playing an essential role in the business. JDC now offers its own line of titanium and carbon fiber parts, custom titanium hardware, badges, logos, JDC Ignition Systems, and thousands of products from top brands throughout the automotive performance industry.

Today

Still Growing, Still Improving

Today, JDC has partnered with some of the biggest distributors and performance brands in the country, while continuing to develop new in-house products and expand the website. After two long years of construction, the new shop is finally complete, giving the team the space needed to keep growing. None of this would have been possible without years of nonstop work from Jon and the continued support of amazing customers.
