What The Bench Testing Showed

We put a production brace on a servo universal compression tester and loaded it until it broke, then ran a second sample on a dual-cylinder fatigue rig. Here is what came back:

  • Weight: 3.42 lb (1.55 kg) against 7.39 lb (3.35 kg) for the factory steel brace
  • Ultimate load: 2,682 N (603 lbf) against 2,460 N (553 lbf) for the factory steel brace
  • Fatigue cycling: 200,000 cycles at 800 N with no failure

Testing performed on the F95 and F96 application.

3.97 lb off the nose. That is 54% lighter than the steel piece it replaces, and every ounce of it comes off the highest, most forward point in the engine bay. It will not change your lap time. It is real mass removed from the worst possible place to carry it, and it is the kind of change that adds up when you make it four or five times across a build.

9% higher ultimate load than factory steel. The carbon plate took 2,682 N before the laminate gave up, against 2,460 N for the OEM brace. Well past anything a road car sees.

200,000 fatigue cycles with nothing to report. No fastener loosening. No surface cracking. No delamination. No creaking. This is the number that should actually matter to you, because "will this expensive carbon part start rattling in two years" is the real question, and the answer is no. Under normal driving and wind load the brace stays fully inside its elastic range and returns to shape with zero permanent deformation.

Dry Carbon Strut Brace Machined From One Piece, Not Bonded Together

Most carbon strut braces are a compromise you cannot see. A carbon tube, two metal end mounts, and structural adhesive holding the assembly together. The bond line is the weak point, and after enough underhood heat cycles it is the first thing to let go.

The AutoTecknic Dry Carbon Strut Brace (part number ATK-BM-0523) has no bond line to fail. It is CNC-machined from a single multi-layer dry carbon fiber laminate plate, with the hollowed center section cut rather than molded. No tubes. No adhesive joints. No end caps to work loose. That is also why the edges stay crisp and the twill runs unbroken across the full span instead of stopping at a seam.

Is This Real Carbon Fiber?

Yes, and it is worth being specific about what that means, because the market is full of parts that are not.

This is 100% genuine pre-preg dry carbon fiber, real 2x2 twill weave, cured under controlled heat and pressure at a high fiber-to-resin ratio. It is not a carbon-look vinyl wrap. It is not a hydrodipped plastic shell. It is not wet-layup carbon carrying a heavy resin content and calling itself dry carbon. Run your hand along the edge of the machined center section and you will see actual laminate plies, not a printed film wrapped around a substrate. The UV-resistant clear coat is there so the weave still looks like this in year five, available in gloss or satin.

Installation Notes

This is a 30 to 45 minute job with hand tools, and most owners handle it themselves. It uses the factory strut tower mounting points. No drilling, no cutting, no permanent modification, and nothing to undo if you sell the car.

Two things to get right, and they are the difference between a brace that lasts and one that does not:

  1. Use the supplied washers at every mounting point. Carbon laminate does not like point loads. The washers spread clamping force across the plate face. Do not install without them.
  2. Torque diagonally and evenly, and do not gorilla it. Snug each fastener in a cross pattern rather than running one down fully before moving to the next. Over-torquing a single point is the one reliable way to start edge delamination in a carbon plate. Firm and even beats tight.

Avoid striking the hollowed center section with tools or dropped hardware during installation. If you are not comfortable managing torque by feel, professional installation is recommended.

Shipping

Unless package dimensions or weight prohibit it, all items will be shipped using USPS First Class Mail/ Priority Mail. If necessary, UPS, FedEx, or a motor freight carrier may be utilized. Expedited shipping options may be available upon request for an additional cost. For international orders, we may choose to ship via DHL at our discretion. Please be aware that trade agreements vary between Canada and other international countries, and as a result, the customer assumes full responsibility for any duties, taxes, or brokerage fees associated with the importation of AutoTecknic goods.

AutoTecknic strictly does not accept unauthorized returns. If an item needs to be returned, the customer must contact us first to obtain a return authorization number. This number must be clearly indicated on the exterior of the return package. Unless otherwise specified, the buyer is responsible for the shipping costs. The return package must include an invoice with the date of sale. To be eligible for a refund or credit, the returned items must be in their original packaging, unused, in pristine condition, and received by AutoTecknic within 14 days from the original receipt of the product. Damaged, installed, or deformed items will not receive any credit. All returned items will be inspected prior to issuing any refunds or credits. Special order items can only be returned if they have manufacturer defects. A 20% restocking fee applies to all eligible return items, except in cases where the return was necessitated by our error. It is important to note that any damage must be reported to AutoTecknic before installation. We cannot provide exchanges or refunds for items that have been installed or used.

RETURNABLE ITEMS:

Damaged Boxes/Parts: If a box appears to have been impacted during shipping, please notify the freight company at the time of delivery, if possible. Request the driver to make a note of it, as this will help expedite the claims process. While delays and issues are unfortunate, they can occur, and it is important to follow the necessary steps to resolve them.

Retain All Packaging: Please keep all factory packaging, including the box and padding. If any of these items are discarded, our ability to assist you may be limited.

Take Photos: We kindly request that you email us photos of any relevant items. Providing visual documentation will help us understand your situation and provide appropriate assistance. Sometimes, verbal or written communication may not suffice, and photos can help clarify any confusion. Remember to take photos of everything, including the packaging.

Avoid Installation: If you identify any defects or discrepancies with a product, please refrain from installing it. By proceeding with the installation, you forfeit the ability to process a claim. AutoTecknic cannot be held responsible for any errors, omissions, or damages resulting from installation, either directly or indirectly

Taxes & Duty: If you reside outside the United States, please be aware that you will be responsible for any taxes or duty fees imposed by your government. Before placing your order, we recommend checking with UPS or your local government to obtain an estimate of these charges.

Using a Freight Forwarder: If you choose to use a freight forwarder, please note that our responsibility ends once they receive the package. It is essential that they inspect all contents for damage and accuracy and contact us immediately if any issues arise before forwarding the products to your location. Once the package is forwarded, the freight forwarder assumes responsibility for any loss, damage, or missing items.

Your genuine AutoTecknic-branded ("Product") is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of original retail purchase ("Warranty Period") when used in accordance with AutoTecknic's user manuals/ guidelines. Under this warranty, you will be able to direct your claims to AutoTecknic even in situations where you purchased the AutoTecknic product from a third-party authorized reseller. If a defect arises during the Warranty Period

AutoTecknic, at its option, will:

  1. Repair the product at no charge using new parts or parts that are equivalent to new in performance and reliability.
  2. Exchange the product with a product with equivalent functionality formed from new and/or previously used parts that are equivalent to new in performance and reliability or, with your consent, a product that is at least functionally equivalent to the product it replaces.
  3. Refund the original purchase price.

This warranty excludes normal depletion of consumable parts such as front lip scrape guards unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship. The warranty also excludes damage resulting from abuse, accident, modifications, unauthorized repairs, or other causes that are not defects in materials and workmanship. A product that does not have a visible AutoTecknic hologram warranty sticker will also be excluded from the warranty claim.

The warranty period applies from the date of purchase by the original customer, and warranties are not transferable and apply to the original purchaser only. No matter how many repairs or replacements are received concerning the product, the warranty limit still stands. The replacement product would still be under warranty for ONE (1) YEAR of the original date of purchase.
