First introduced in Japan in the Spring of 2005, the Mitsubishi Evolution IX features the venerable 4G63 2.0L but with the new MIVEC technology (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve-timing-and-lift Electronic Control) which features variable valve timing on the intake cam. The USDM Evo IX is available in three different models, the RS, SE, MR which feature subtle differences. The RS excludes options standard on the SE and MR like power windows and locks, rear wiper, rear spoiler, trunk interior and trunk insulation which saves about 60 lbs for better handling characteristics by the RS chassis. The MR retains the features of the Evo VIII like Bilstein shocks, 6 speed manual transmission, BBS forged wheels, HID xenon headlights, accessory gauge package, special badging and an aluminum roof. All models sport Recaro bucket seats, Brembo brakes, and Momo steering wheel.
