How to Prevent Condensation in Aftermarket Headlights

Condensation is not always a failed headlight seal. Learn how temperature, vents, caps and water entry create fogging—and how to fix the actual cause.

A light haze inside a headlight after a cold morning does not automatically mean the housing is defective. Headlights contain air, and that air contains moisture. As the lamp temperature changes, water vapor can condense on the coolest internal surface—usually the lens. Proper vents should let the moisture leave as conditions stabilize.

Persistent droplets, a visible water line or fogging that never clears are different. Those symptoms point toward water entry, blocked ventilation, an unseated cap, damaged housing or a poor seal. Preventing condensation begins with identifying which condition is present.
