JDC Coil-On-Plug Ignition System | 1996-2006 Mitsubishi Evolution 4-9

Eliminate spark blowout and unlock reliable ignition performance with the JDC Coil-On-Plug Ignition System designed for Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 4 through Evolution 9. This complete system replaces the underpowered factory coils and ignition wires with a modern direct coil-on-plug setup engineered to deliver stronger spark energy and improved reliability.

Unlike many alternatives, the JDC COP system uses 100% authentic high-performance Denso or Hitachi ignition coils (based on your selection). These Japanese-made coils are known for their durability and consistent performance, making them ideal for high-boost and performance-oriented builds.

The system arrives fully assembled and ready to install. Simply remove it from the box, install it onto your valve cover, and enjoy immediate improvements in ignition performance with no assembly required.

Every system now includes JDC Titanium mounting hardware at no additional cost. Be sure to select your preferred titanium color option before adding the kit to your cart.

Features

  • Fits Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 4 through 9
  • Direct replacement for factory coils and ignition wires
  • Plug-and-play installation with no assembly required
  • Authentic Denso or Hitachi high-performance ignition coils
  • Includes JDC Titanium mounting hardware
  • Designed and assembled in the USA
  • Proven reliability since 2015

Performance Benefits

  • Eliminates spark blowout under high boost
  • Supports larger spark plug gaps for improved combustion
  • Helps improve fuel efficiency with better spark energy
  • Reduces spark plug fouling for longer plug life
  • Improved throttle response and drivability

Hideaway Harness Option

For customers looking for a cleaner engine bay appearance, the optional Hideaway harness provides a wire-tucked installation.

  • Both leads exit the valve cover on the right side
  • Eliminates the wire normally running across the top of the valve cover
  • The right-side connection hides behind the thermostat housing
  • Left-side lead can be routed under or over the intake manifold for a hidden connection behind the valve cover

Note: The Hideaway harness and Show Series mounting plates are not available for systems equipped with Hitachi (GT-R) coils.

Upgrade Your Evo’s Ignition

With proven performance, premium materials, and a true plug-and-play design, the JDC Coil-On-Plug Ignition System is one of the most effective upgrades for Evo 4-9 owners experiencing ignition limitations. Enjoy stronger spark delivery, improved reliability, and smoother performance right out of the box.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Is the JDC COP Ignition System compatible with my Mitsubishi Evolution model?

Yes, the JDC COP Ignition System is designed as a direct replacement for factory ignition systems in Mitsubishi Evolution models 4 through 9. It seamlessly integrates with your vehicle's existing setup, providing a plug-and-play solution without the need for additional modifications.

Will I need to retune my vehicle after installing the JDC COP Ignition System?

For Denso coils- No retuning is necessary after installation. The JDC COP Ignition System is engineered to work with your vehicle's existing settings, providing immediate performance benefits without the need for additional tuning.

For Hitachi (GT-R) coils - Yes, you will need a tuner to adjust the factory dwell timing before driving with the system installed. We suggest setting the factory dwell time at 3.4ms @14v to help keep the coils cool, but you should always consult with your tuner to ensure the COP system is properly adjusted for your specific setup.

What coils should I choose for my power level?

JDC offers two types of coils for its Coil-On-Plug (COP) Ignition SystemsDenso and Hitachi GT-R coils. Both options have unique characteristics that cater to different performance needs.

Denso Coils (Standard Option)

  • Authentic Japanese-Made Denso Coils – Reliable and proven for high-performance applications.
  • Tested up to 913 WHP @ 0.020" spark plug gap – Well-suited for most moderate to high-power Evo builds.
  • Durable & Long-Lasting – More resistant to breakdown compared to cheaper, off-brand coils.
  • OEM-Level Fitment – Direct plug-and-play for Mitsubishi Evolution 4-9.
  • Recommended for stock cars up to ~900 WHP

Hitachi GT-R Coils (Optional Upgrade)

  • Higher Saturation Limit – Can handle more dwell time without overheating, making them better for extreme horsepower builds.
  • Supports Larger Spark Plug Gaps – More efficient combustion, allowing for more boost and power potential.
  • Improved Ignition Efficiency – Helps in maintaining spark energy under high-cylinder pressures.
  • Recommended for builds exceeding 800+ WHP or aggressive setups requiring more spark energy.

The JDC Recommendation

  • While the Hitachi coils provide more spark energy for higher horsepower builds, they do tend to be more temperamental and require more maintenance and tuning than Denso coils. We do not recommend using HItachi coils for cars making less than 800 WHP. Denso coils are more reliable and less temperamental making them a better-suited option for cars making under 900 WHP.
