JDC Coil-On-Plug Ignition System | Evo 4-9 Denso Coils

Eliminate spark blowout and upgrade your ignition performance with the JDC Coil-On-Plug Ignition System featuring authentic Denso ignition coils. Designed as a direct replacement for the factory Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 4-9 ignition system, this setup replaces the stock coils and plug wires with a modern coil-on-plug solution that installs quickly and easily.

This system arrives fully assembled and ready to install. Simply remove it from the box, bolt it onto the engine, and plug it into the factory connectors. No assembly or wiring modifications are required.

Unlike many alternatives on the market, this system uses genuine high-performance Japanese-made Denso ignition coils. These coils deliver stronger spark energy and long-term reliability compared to cheap off-brand alternatives.

Designed and assembled in the USA, the JDC COP system has been on the market since 2015, and has proven to be one of the most reliable and best-performing non-CDI ignition upgrades available for the Evo platform.

Features

  • Fits Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 4-9
  • Direct replacement for factory coils and ignition wires
  • Plug-and-play installation with no assembly required
  • Authentic Japanese-made Denso ignition coils
  • Designed and assembled in the USA
  • Proven performance and reliability since 2015
  • Comparable performance to SparkTech and Spoolin Up non-CDI systems

Performance Benefits

  • Eliminates spark blowout under higher boost levels
  • Provides stronger and more consistent spark energy
  • Improves combustion efficiency and throttle response
  • Helps reduce spark plug fouling
  • Supports larger spark plug gaps for improved fuel burn

Hideaway Harness Option

The optional Hideaway harness provides a cleaner, wire-tucked installation while maintaining the same performance and reliability as the standard harness.

This harness uses the same high-quality connectors, military-spec Tefzel wire, and protective wire sheath as the standard JDC COP harness. The wiring routes underneath the mounting plate for a much cleaner appearance.

Key differences with the Hideaway harness:

  • Both leads exit the valve cover on the right side
  • Wires are concealed within a single protective sheath
  • Right-side connector hides behind the thermostat housing
  • Left-side lead routes under or over the intake manifold and makes its connection behind the valve cover

The Hideaway harness can be purchased separately or added to an ignition system order for an additional cost.

Titanium Mounting Plates

Titanium mounting plates are color-matched to the hardware color selected by default. If you would like a specific color combination, please contact us before placing your order.

For cleaning titanium plates, use JDC Titanium Cleaner, Windex, or other safe window cleaner with a microfiber towel. Avoid harsh chemicals or metal polishes as they may damage or remove the anodized finish.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Is the JDC COP Ignition System compatible with my Mitsubishi Evolution model?

Yes, the JDC COP Ignition System is designed as a direct replacement for factory ignition systems in Mitsubishi Evolution models 4 through 9. It seamlessly integrates with your vehicle's existing setup, providing a plug-and-play solution without the need for additional modifications.

Will I need to retune my vehicle after installing the JDC COP Ignition System?

For Denso coils- No retuning is necessary after installation. The JDC COP Ignition System is engineered to work with your vehicle's existing settings, providing immediate performance benefits without the need for additional tuning.

For Hitachi (GT-R) coils - Yes, you will need a tuner to adjust the factory dwell timing before driving with the system installed. We suggest setting the factory dwell time at 3.4ms @14v to help keep the coils cool, but you should always consult with your tuner to ensure the COP system is properly adjusted for your specific setup.

What coils should I choose for my power level?

JDC offers two types of coils for its Coil-On-Plug (COP) Ignition SystemsDenso and Hitachi GT-R coils. Both options have unique characteristics that cater to different performance needs.

Denso Coils (Standard Option)

  • Authentic Japanese-Made Denso Coils – Reliable and proven for high-performance applications.
  • Tested up to 913 WHP @ 0.020" spark plug gap – Well-suited for most moderate to high-power Evo builds.
  • Durable & Long-Lasting – More resistant to breakdown compared to cheaper, off-brand coils.
  • OEM-Level Fitment – Direct plug-and-play for Mitsubishi Evolution 4-9.
  • Recommended for stock cars up to ~900 WHP

Hitachi GT-R Coils (Optional Upgrade)

  • Higher Saturation Limit – Can handle more dwell time without overheating, making them better for extreme horsepower builds.
  • Supports Larger Spark Plug Gaps – More efficient combustion, allowing for more boost and power potential.
  • Improved Ignition Efficiency – Helps in maintaining spark energy under high-cylinder pressures.
  • Recommended for builds exceeding 800+ WHP or aggressive setups requiring more spark energy.

The JDC Recommendation

  • While the Hitachi coils provide more spark energy for higher horsepower builds, they do tend to be more temperamental and require more maintenance and tuning than Denso coils. We do not recommend using HItachi coils for cars making less than 800 WHP. Denso coils are more reliable and less temperamental making them a better-suited option for cars making under 900 WHP.
