JDC Coil-On-Plug Ignition System | Hitachi GT-R Coils | Evo 4-9

Struggling with spark blowout on your stock or worn-out ignition system? Upgrade to the JDC Coil-On-Plug (COP) Ignition System, a direct replacement for your Mitsubishi Evolution 4-9 factory coils and ignition wires. This plug-and-play system requires no assembly—simply remove it from the box, install it on your car, and experience instant improvements in ignition performance!

This system utilizes authentic Hitachi R35 GT-R ignition coils to withstand upwards of 1100+ horsepower without needing a CDI box! We chose to go with the Japanese made Hitachi coils instead of NGK coils, which are made in Mexico. The Hitachi coils on the 2009+ GT-R are known to handle 1700+whp, and that's why they're the top choice for the R35 GT-R. This system will plug straight into your factory wire harness without any modifications. It's a simple, 10-minute installation (please see Tuning and Usage Notes.

Tuning and Usage Notes:

  • We suggest installing your cop system with dielectric grease to reduce the chances of corrosion in the springs.
  • We suggest setting the factory dwell time at 3.4ms @14v to help keep the coils cool.
  • These upgraded coils can support up to 4.5ms which would allow you to run an even larger spark plug gap for better combustion, which could support even more horsepower.
  • For example, 3.0ms @14v has easily supported 870whp on a mustang dyno.
  • Saturation that could shorten the life of the coils and cause premature failure would be around 5.5ms @14v.
  • For high-power builds a .014 - .018 spark plug gap may be sufficient but will vary depending on your individual vehicle.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Is the JDC COP Ignition System compatible with my Mitsubishi Evolution model?

Yes, the JDC COP Ignition System is designed as a direct replacement for factory ignition systems in Mitsubishi Evolution models 4 through 9. It seamlessly integrates with your vehicle's existing setup, providing a plug-and-play solution without the need for additional modifications.

Will I need to retune my vehicle after installing the JDC COP Ignition System?

For Denso coils- No retuning is necessary after installation. The JDC COP Ignition System is engineered to work with your vehicle's existing settings, providing immediate performance benefits without the need for additional tuning.

For Hitachi (GT-R) coils - Yes, you will need a tuner to adjust the factory dwell timing before driving with the system installed. We suggest setting the factory dwell time at 3.4ms @14v to help keep the coils cool, but you should always consult with your tuner to ensure the COP system is properly adjusted for your specific setup.

What coils should I choose for my power level?

JDC offers two types of coils for its Coil-On-Plug (COP) Ignition SystemsDenso and Hitachi GT-R coils. Both options have unique characteristics that cater to different performance needs.

Denso Coils (Standard Option)

  • Authentic Japanese-Made Denso Coils – Reliable and proven for high-performance applications.
  • Tested up to 913 WHP @ 0.020" spark plug gap – Well-suited for most moderate to high-power Evo builds.
  • Durable & Long-Lasting – More resistant to breakdown compared to cheaper, off-brand coils.
  • OEM-Level Fitment – Direct plug-and-play for Mitsubishi Evolution 4-9.
  • Recommended for stock cars up to ~900 WHP

Hitachi GT-R Coils (Optional Upgrade)

  • Higher Saturation Limit – Can handle more dwell time without overheating, making them better for extreme horsepower builds.
  • Supports Larger Spark Plug Gaps – More efficient combustion, allowing for more boost and power potential.
  • Improved Ignition Efficiency – Helps in maintaining spark energy under high-cylinder pressures.
  • Recommended for builds exceeding 800+ WHP or aggressive setups requiring more spark energy.

The JDC Recommendation

  • While the Hitachi coils provide more spark energy for higher horsepower builds, they do tend to be more temperamental and require more maintenance and tuning than Denso coils. We do not recommend using HItachi coils for cars making less than 800 WHP. Denso coils are more reliable and less temperamental making them a better-suited option for cars making under 900 WHP.
